Spa cures
SPAS ARE A RIGHT.
Every year all Italian citizens are entitled to a course of spa treatment paid for by the National Health Service. All it takes is a prescription from one’s primary care physician to get treatment
WATER TO DRINK

Inhalation care
Inhalation treatments are among the most important therapies performed at Lurisia. These are therapeutic techniques of introducing, by the respiratory route, water vapor or micronized thermal water. Intake can be by mask, nasal bifurcation, or direct jet, depending on the type of pathology being treated.
Usually more than one therapy is combined, for example inhalation and aerosol, which are carried out in succession with an interval of at least 10 minutes.
Inhalation treatment with the thermal waters of Lurisia is particularly indicated in the treatment of diseases of the respiratory tract, the oral cavity, and, above all, in allergic forms.
In addition to inhalation treatments, nasal duct washing using a micronized nasal shower can be performed, with excellent results in cases of rhinitis, sinusitis, and adenoid hypertrophy.
INDICATIONS FOR INHALATION TREATMENT IN ADULTS.
Chronic and/or relapsing diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract: rhino-sinusitis, nonspecific vasomotor rhinopathy, allergic rhinitis, pharyngo-laryngitis, chronic simple bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, rhino-sinuso-bronchial syndrome.
In order to be eligible for the agreement with the National Health Service (Ministerial Decree 15/12/94), a doctor’s prescription is required in which exactly the following must be stated:
– Cycle of 24 inhalation treatments for vasomotor rhinopathy is required, or
– Cycle of 24 inhalation treatments for chronic pharyngolaryngitis is required, or
– Cycle of 24 inhalation treatments for chronic sinusitis is required, or
– Cycle of 24 inhalation treatments is required for chronic rhinosinusitic-bronchial syndromes, or
– Cycle of 24 inhalation treatments is required for chronic bronchitis simple or accompanied with obstructive component, or
– Cycle of 24 inhalation treatments for chronic bronchopathy from occupational exposure to irritants and dust is required.
Pulmonary Ventilation and Respiratory Rehabilitation
There are pathologies, for which reeducation in proper breathing movement is necessary.
Pulmonary ventilation, which is the renewal of air in the respiratory tree achieved by induced inspiratory and expiratory movements and performed under direct intervention of the spa physician, is an effective aid for those suffering from chronic lung problems and is almost always done in conjunction with inhalation treatments and respiratory rehabilitative physiotherapy.
At Lurisia, the medical specialist studies, together with the therapist, a series of exercises that help restore the best conditions of function and respiratory autonomy. Respiratory rehabilitation is also combined with the other therapeutic techniques and is done under direct medical supervision.
INDICATIONS
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic bronchopathies from occupational exposure to irritants and dust.
Ear care
The therapeutic techniques that the Lurisia Hydrothermal Institute uses in the treatment of ear diseases are endotubar insufflation and crenotherapy politzer.
These are two different ways of conveying thermal water and steam into the auditory canal. Endotubar insufflation is the delivery of aqueous gases into the ear cavity via a thin catheter introduced into the pharyngeal ostium of the tube. The crenotherapeutic politzer, on the other hand, is an indirect method and involves the introduction of thermal gases through a small occluding nasal olive.
With these therapies, combined with inhalation treatments, chronic or recurrent catarrhal otitis of the adult, elderly, and child’s ear is treated.
Endotubaric insufflations are practiced in adults while vibratory crenotherapy politzer is more suitable for children.
INDICATIONS FOR TREATMENT OF EAR DISEASES.
Tubal catarrh, tubal dysfunction, rhinogenic hearing loss, otitis, deafness, tubaritis.
In order to be eligible for the agreement with the National Health Service (Ministerial Decree 15/12/94), a doctor’s prescription is required in which exactly the following must be stated:
– Cycle is required for rhinogenic deafness due to tubal stenosis, or
– Cycle is required for rhinogenic deafness for catarrhal otitis, or
– Cycle for rhinogenous deafness for chronic prurulent non-cholesteatomatous otitis is required, as needed.

Mudobalnotherapy
Lurisia’s thermal mud is a hot amalgam obtained by mixing clay-or peloid-with thermal water, which is matured in the tank for at least 6 months.
The therapeutic action of thermal mud is closely related to the type of water that is used for mixing and maturation and the anti-inflammatory properties characteristic of clay. Lurisia’s mud is formed and then macerated in thermal water with radioemanating therapeutic properties that give it special hypotensive and sedative characteristics and additional disinflammatory and antalgic capabilities.
Mud therapy is, therefore, recommended for arthrosis, cervico-arthrosis, cervicalgia, and rheumatism.
Mud therapy involves laying the patient on top of a layer of about 10 centimeters of warm mud (42-47 °C, or customized temperature according to the Guest’s needs), with mud then added to all joints (shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands, knees and ankles).
The duration of the application is about 15 minutes, followed by manual cleaning of the residue and a therapeutic bath in thermal water lasting about 15 minutes. Finally, the sweat reaction phase begins in the cabin where the mud therapy took place, which ends in the relaxation area of the ward where hydropinic treatment can begin, following the instructions of the spa doctor.
For mud therapy, the Lurisia Hydrothermal Institute uses “cradles.” These are special wooden tanks capable of optimally retaining and releasing the heat given off by the mud and keeping it intact until the end of the treatment.
Mud therapy sessions should be performed on an empty stomach or after a light breakfast. It is also important that during the reaction, you take non-carbonated water. A mud therapy cycle consists of one session per day for 12 days. It may happen, that during the treatment an unusual sense of exhaustion is felt or the pain of the part subjected to therapy increases. This is the so-called “spa crisis,” nothing of concern, but it is good to report it to the spa doctor who will evaluate the situation. The use of thermal mud gives excellent results applied locally warm or cold, in the treatment of dermatological conditions, allergic dermatitis, acne and eczema, sinusitis and headaches.
To be eligible for total fangobalnotherapy, you must present a recent electrocardiogram (taken no more than one month before) and strictly follow the spa doctor’s instructions. Useful adjunct to fangobalnotherapy is the combination of a course of massage, ultrasound, Tens or magnetotherapy and electrotherapy.
INDICATIONS FOR FANGOBALNEOTHERAPY
Chronic degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system: generalized or district arthrosis (cervicoarthrosis, lumbar arthrosis, rhizoarthrosis, etc.), periarthritis, herniated disc surgery outcomes, cervicalgia and low back pain of rheumatic origin, fibromyalgia, tendinitis of rheumatic origin.
In order to be eligible for the agreement with the National Health Service (Ministerial Decree 15/12/94), a doctor’s prescription is required in which exactly the following must be stated:
– Cycle of 12 mud + 12 therapeutic baths for osteoarthritis and other degenerative forms is required, or
– Cycle of 12 mud baths + 12 showers is required for osteoarthritis and other degenerative forms, or
– A cycle of 12 mud + 12 therapeutic baths for extra-articular rheumatism is required, or
– A cycle of 12 mud baths + 12 showers for extra-articular rheumatism is requested, according to one’s needs.
It is recommended to reserve the mud-balneotherapy cabin by phone at least two months in advance and to bring a bathing suit, a pair of rubber slippers and a bathrobe.
Balneotherapy or Thermal Bath
Balneotherapy with the thermal waters of Lurisia, due to its anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, sedative and antalgic properties, is particularly suitable for dermatological diseases, especially of childhood, and can be an excellent alternative to mud therapy in those cases where there are contraindications (e.g., heart disease, severe vasculopathy, etc.). The duration of the bath, like the temperature of the water, is strictly customized and is indicated on a case-by-case basis by the spa doctor.
Particularly indicated in the presence of calculosis is the so-called “water blow” that is, hydropinotherapy alternating with thermal baths. The effect of taking amounts, well dosed by the doctor, of thermal water at the same time as the baths promotes the expulsion of the stones.
Balneotherapy at Lurisia is often combined with other therapies, for example in gynecological problems or as an adjunct in stress and relaxation therapies (with the addition of customized blends of plant substances and essential oils).
BALNEOTHERAPY OR THERMAL BATH INDICATIONS
Dermatological diseases (psoriasis, contact eczema, allergy-based dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, acne), gynecological conditions, stress therapies, stretch marks, skin relaxation, and cellulite.
In order to be eligible for the agreement with the National Health Service (Ministerial Decree 15/12/94), a doctor’s prescription is required in which exactly the following must be stated:
– A course of 12 therapeutic baths for psoriasis is required, or
– A course of 12 therapeutic baths for eczema and atopic dermatitis is required, or
– A cycle of 12 baths for recurrent seborrheic dermatitis is requested, as needed.
It is recommended to bring a bathing suit, a pair of rubber slippers and bathrobe.
Gynecological care
Gynecological treatments performed with the waters of Lurisia consist of irrigation, performed by the physician, of the genital districts and attached mucous membranes with lukewarm thermal water.
The anti-inflammatory, antiphlogistic, and antiseptic properties of thermal waters have been shown to be effective in the treatment of diseases of the female reproductive system, chronic inflammatory conditions, ovarian disorders, and inflammatory-based infertility. The effects of vaginal irrigations are enhanced and complemented by the combination with thermal water baths.
Cleansing alone with Lurisia thermal waters also gives excellent results in the prevention of inflammatory forms and in cases of hypersensitivity, promoting pH rebalancing.
INDICATIONS FOR GYNECOLOGICAL CARE
Chronic and/or relapsing conditions: nonspecific vaginitis, dystrophic vaginitis, gynecologic surgery outcomes, pelvic inflammation.
In order to be eligible for the agreement with the National Health Service (Ministerial Decree 15/12/94), a doctor’s prescription is required in which exactly the following must be stated:
– A course of 12 vaginal irrigations is required for painful sclerosis of the pelvic connective tissue of scarring and involutional nature, or
– A course of 12 vaginal irrigations is required for persistent leukorrhea from chronic nonspecific or dystrophic vaginitis, as needed.
