Water for bathing

Mud balneotherapy

Lurisia thermal mud is a hot mixture obtained by blending clay – or peloid – with thermal water, which is then left to mature in large tubs for at least 6 months. The therapeutic action of the thermal mud is closely linked to the type of water used for the mixture, the maturation and the characteristic anti-inflammatory properties of clay. Lurisia mud is made up and then macerated in thermal water with therapeutic radon-rich properties that give it special hypotensive and sedative properties, as well as anti-inflammatory and analgesic capacities.
Mud therapy is therefore indicated for arthrosis, cervical arthrosis, cervicalgia and rheumatism.
The patient lies on top of a layer of hot mud approximately 10 centimetres deep (at 42-47°C, or at a temperature personalised to suit the Guest’s needs), and mud is subsequently added to cover all the joints (shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands, knees and ankles).
It is left in place for 15 minutes and then removed manually and the patient takes a therapeutic bath in thermal water for around 15 minutes. This is followed by the sweat reaction in the cabin in which mud therapy took place. The patient then concludes the therapy in the department’s relaxation area, where the hydropinic cure can be started in accordance with the doctor’s indications.
Lurisia Hydrothermal Establishment uses “cradles” for mud therapy. These are special wooden beds capable of optimally retaining and releasing the heat radiated by the mud and keeping it intact right through to the end of the treatment.
Mud therapy must be performed on an empty stomach or after a light breakfast. It is also important to drink non-carbonated water during the reaction. A mud therapy cycle consists of one session a day for 12 days. During the treatment the patient may feel abnormally lethargic or the pain in the part being treated may increase. This is known as the “thermal crisis”, and is nothing to worry about, although the in-house doctor should be informed to allow him/her to assess the situation.
The use of thermal mud gives excellent results when applied locally, either tepid or cold, to treat dermatological disorders, allergic dermatitis, acne and eczema, sinusitis and headaches.
To access total mud balneotherapy treatment, the patient must bring a recent electrocardiogram (no more than one month old) and adhere strictly to the indications of the in-house doctor. A cycle of massage, ultrasound therapy, TENS or pulsed electromagnetic therapy and electrotherapy is a useful complement to mud balneotherapy.

Balneotherapy or thermal bath

Due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-spastic, sedative and analgesic properties, balneotherapy in Lurisia thermal water is particularly suitable for dermatological disorders, above all for infants, and can be an excellent alternative to mud therapy in cases in which it has contraindications (e.g. cardiopathy, severe vasculopathy, etc.). The duration of the bath and the temperature of the water are strictly personalised and are indicated, case by case, by the in-house doctor.
For kidney stones, the “colpo d’acqua”, or water shot, is particularly indicated; this consists of alternating hydropinic therapy with thermal baths. The effect of drinking mineral water in quantities dosed by the doctor simultaneously to bathing in the thermal water helps to expel the stones.
At Lurisia, balneotherapy is often combined with other therapies, for example in gynaecological problems or as an adjuvant to antistress and relaxation therapies (with the addition of personalised mixtures of plant substances and essential oils).

Gynaecological treatments

Gynaecological treatments carried out with Lurisia waters are irrigation of the genital areas and of the surrounding mucous membranes using warm thermal water; this treatment is administered by a doctor.
The anti-inflammatory, antiphlogistic and antiseptic properties of the thermal waters have proved their efficacy in the treatment of disorders of the female reproductive system, in chronic inflammatory conditions, in ovarian disorders and infertility caused by inflammation. The effects of vaginal irrigations are strengthened and completed when combined with bathing in thermal water.
However, even cleansing using Lurisia thermal waters alone offers excellent results in the prevention of forms of inflammation and cases of hypersensitivity, promoting rebalance of the pH.
